Internet security

Your most sensitive information is everywhere in these modern times and it would be a wise move to insure that it is well protected. Hackers are forever on the hunt looking for personal and company information that they know they can sell. Anyone who has ever fallen prey to an identity thief knows the trauma of a potentially destroyed life.

All of your most sensitive data is, of course, kept on your computer’s hard drive. The information is gathered and stored in many clusters of data and information. The size of these informational clusters is dependent on several things including the amount of room on your hard drive. One of the ways to keep your data relatively safe is to partition, or section off, your hard drive. It’s like your hard drive is a house and each partition is a separate room in your house where you are storing certain things.

There are some strategies you can employ to protect your most coveted possessions like family histories, medical records or treasured family photos. In addition taking certain precautions can help make it harder for thieves and hackers to steal your passwords, bank account numbers, and personal identification data such as your birthday and social security number.

  •  Any treasured possessions or information that your      really cannot afford to lose should be transferred to a DVD. Burning this      information to a disk gives you a back up copy and will ensure that      magnetic damage done to your hard drive will not adversely affect those      possessions.
  • Make sure you have installed some manner of firewall.      This protects you from possible intruders via the World Wide Web. The      firewall will keep most invaders out and not allow anyone to see, or      potentially steal, your crucial personal or company data.
  • Use encryption when you can. It is just an additional      layer of protection.
  • Don’t use obvious or easily broken passwords. Take      the time to create something that will be next to impossible to guess or      discover.
  • Always update your virus and spyware protection. Never      let them lapse and always log off or shut off your computer when you are      not using it. At the very least, disconnect yourself from the internet.

Putting in place some simple and reliable security protections can save you some serious heartache and inconvenience in the future. Isn’t your peace of mind worth taking those extra few minutes? Going those extra few miles?
